The 2010 Strategic Fire Plan for California

The California Fire Plan, a broad strategic document which guides fire policy for much of California is currently in the process of being updated.

California’s 1996 Fire Plan is an innovative plan aimed at reducing fire risk through pre-fire mitigation efforts tailored to local areas through a fuel, hazards, and risk assessment. It was crafted by the Board of Forestry and Fire Protection, a governor-appointed group responsible for setting forest policy and guiding development of guidelines for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire). In 2009, the BoF invited key participants to take part in creating a new strategic vision. On February 11th, the fire plan update was released for a 60 day period of public review and comment. The draft can be downloaded here (PDF) and comments can be directed to board.public.comments@fire.ca.gov.
